Philippines to Host US Visa Processing Center for Afghan Nationals Resettling in America

Under the terms of the agreement, the United States will offer critical services, including food, housing, and medical assistance, to the Afghan nationals during the visa processing period. President Marcos confirmed that up to 1000 Afghan nationals may temporarily stay in the Philippines while their special immigrant visas are being processed. However, these individuals will be subject to a comprehensive and rigorous security vetting procedures, ensuring the safety and security of all involved, and permitted to stay for a maximum of 59 days.

The Afghan nationals seeking resettlement in the US are individuals who have worked for the US government in Afghanistan and are now facing urgent security threats and persecution in their home country. With approximately 130,000 outstanding visa applications, the need for expedited processing and safe relocation for these individuals is of utmost importance.
