Manila, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a warning as several areas in Luzon and Visayas experience dangerously high heat index levels, with temperatures soaring up to 45°C.
According to PAGASA, Dagupan City, Pangasinan, and Aparri, Cagayan recorded the highest heat index at 45°C, while five other areas—including Laoag City, Tuguegarao City, Echague, Cavite City, and Pili, Camarines Sur—reached 44°C. Additionally, seven locations registered a heat index of 43°C, including Batac, Baler, Olongapo City, Camiling, Tanauan, Infanta, and Cuyo.
The heat index, which measures the “feels-like” temperature by factoring in humidity, has placed these areas under the danger category, meaning residents are at increased risk of heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heatstroke with prolonged exposure. PAGASA has urged the public to take precautions, including staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and wearing lightweight clothing.
The Department of Health (DOH) has also advised Filipinos to remain vigilant, particularly vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
With temperatures expected to remain high in the coming days, authorities continue to monitor conditions and encourage the public to take necessary measures to stay safe.
