The Department of Health (DOH) has raised concerns over the alarming rise in dengue cases across the Philippines, with Calabarzon emerging as the region with the highest reported cases. As of February 22, 2025, the region, which includes Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon, recorded a staggering 10,759 cases. This figure places Calabarzon at the forefront of the country’s dengue crisis.
Following closely are the National Capital Region (NCR) with 9,302 cases and Central Luzon with 8,652 cases, making them the second and third most affected regions, respectively. The DOH reported 52,008 dengue cases nationwide from January 1 to February 22, 2025. This marks a significant 64-percent increase compared to last year, highlighting the urgent need for intensified preventive measures and public awareness campaigns.
The DOH has attributed the rise in cases to various factors, including climate change, which has altered mosquito breeding patterns, and the lack of consistent community efforts to eliminate mosquito habitats. In response, the agency has reactivated “Dengue Fast Lanes” in hospitals and launched initiatives like the “Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito” campaign, urging communities to clean potential mosquito breeding sites every Monday at 4 p.m.
Health officials emphasize the importance of early consultation for individuals experiencing dengue symptoms, such as high fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, and rashes. The DOH also calls on local government units to strengthen their efforts in combating the spread of the disease through fogging operations, public education, and community engagement.
As the country grapples with this public health challenge, the DOH remains committed to reducing the impact of dengue through coordinated efforts and proactive measures. The agency urges the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families from this mosquito-borne disease.
