New Record-breaking P760 Billion in 2024 Tourism Revenues

Manila, Philippines — The Philippine tourism industry achieved an unprecedented milestone in 2024, with revenues soaring to an all-time high of P760 billion, according to Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco. This remarkable performance represents a 9% increase over the P697.46 billion generated in 2023 and an impressive 126% growth from pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

Tourism Secretary Frasco highlighted that this performance underscores the resilience and potential of the Philippine tourism sector, which has significantly recovered since the pandemic. “These figures indicate that the Philippine tourism industry is not only bouncing back but also evolving and expanding,” she said.

Diversification and Growth

The diversification of the tourism market has driven the growth in tourism revenues. South Korea remained the top source of international arrivals, followed by the United States and Japan. Emerging markets like Australia, India, and Taiwan have also shown notable growth, supported by initiatives such as introducing electronic travel authorities for Indian travelers.

Average expenditure per visitor has increased to USD 2,073, with tourists staying an average of over 11 nights, up from nine nights in 2019. Frasco noted that 70% of tourists coming to the country are repeat visitors.

Despite some challenges, such as a decline in Chinese visitors due to geopolitical tensions and visa restrictions, the Philippine tourism sector’s achievements in 2024 are a testament to the Marcos administration’s pro-tourism policies. These policies focus on sustainable development, infrastructure enhancements, and community empowerment.

Economic Contribution

The growth of the tourism sector has significantly contributed to the nation’s economic stability and growth. Thousands of jobs have been created, fostering economic resilience and enabling families to thrive.

Future Plans

The DOT is committed to maintaining this momentum. It plans to continue enhancing infrastructure, promoting heritage conservation, and investing in workforce skills development programs. With a restored marketing budget of P500 million for 2025, the DOT aims to strengthen promotional campaigns and further solidify the Philippines’ status as a premier global tourism destination.

As Secretary Frasco aptly summarized, “The growth of tourism should be inclusive and equitable, empowering local entrepreneurs and communities.”
