Moncton, NB — Regine Lura, a native of Antipolo City in the Rizal province of the Philippines, has been named one of the first recipients of the inaugural Humanitarian Award for Community Volunteer Hero by the Multicultural Association of the Greater Moncton Area (MAGMA). This prestigious award recognizes individuals who have significantly contributed to their communities through volunteer work.

MAGMA, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting newcomers to Moncton for over 40 years, honored Lura for her exceptional volunteer efforts. As an English tutor, she has aided refugees from Iran, Iraq, and Turkey, helping them navigate their new lives in Canada with greater ease and confidence.

In addition to her work with refugees, Lura has demonstrated remarkable leadership and commitment to her community. While at New Brunswick Community College, she served as the class representative, acting as a liaison between students facing difficulties and their instructors. Her leadership skills were further recognized when she became the student body president, advocating for her peers and fostering a supportive educational environment.

Lura’s dedication extends beyond the academic sphere. She has volunteered with the Filipino Association of the Greater Moncton Area, Habitat for Humanity, and the Canadian Cancer Society, among other organizations. Despite her busy schedule balancing school, volunteer work, and a part-time job, she graduated with honors, receiving special distinctions and awards for her academic and extracurricular achievements.

“Regine Lura’s story is a testament to the power of resilience, compassion, and community spirit,” said a representative from MAGMA during the award ceremony. “Her unwavering commitment to helping others, even while managing her challenges, makes her a true humanitarian and an inspiration to us all.”

Lura’s contributions have not only enriched the lives of those she has directly helped but also strengthened the fabric of the Greater Moncton community. Her recognition as a Community Volunteer Hero serves as a powerful reminder of the profound impact one individual can have through dedication and kindness, inspiring hope and a sense of possibility in all of us.

As Regine Lura continues her journey, she remains a beacon of hope and a role model for both newcomers and long-standing residents of Moncton. Her story of resilience, determination, and a generous heart is a testament to the fact that one can indeed make a significant difference, inspiring us all to strive for our best.
